Asphalt roofing is the most popular material used, its durability, fire resistance, and price make it a go-to for many. They are easily laid to complement your house’s style.

There are several different types of asphalt shingles to choose from:

Organic Asphalt Shingles are the proven option, they can last around 20 years as long as the roof is properly maintained and any damaged sections are repaired promptly. They are the least expensive option, especially in regard to installation.

The process used to create the shingles makes a hardy and waterproof product capable of withstanding our ever-changing weather.  They are also algae and discoloration resistant.  While lightweight, the organic asphalt shingle is more substantial than other, thinner, options that tend to be more negatively impacted by extremely cold temperatures.

Fiberglass Asphalt Shingles are more fire-resistant than organic asphalt shingles. Because of the additional fire resistance, fiberglass asphalt shingles have longer warranties. They work well in warmer climates but are not as durable in colder climates—sustained low temperatures can cause damage.

Asphalt Shingles are available in two basic shapes:

Three-Tab Shingles have the appearance of being three separate one-foot shingles but are, in fact, one three-foot-long shingle. They are the most popular shingle shape and are the better shape for low-sloping roofs.

Architectural Shingles are the same size as three-tab shingles but do not have tabs. Instead, they have an additional asphalt layer at the bottom edge of the shingle, which improves water resistance and gives a more dimensional look to the roof, as opposed to the three-tab shingles, which tend to have a flat appearance.
